Established in 1995 by former 2 x Australian and World Pro Am Champion, Merrick Davis, Merrick’s Noosa Learn to Surf is Noosa’s longest running and most recognised Australian surf school. Lessons run year round at 9am and 1.30pm (excluding Christmas Day) and are designed for males and females from 7 years upwards.

We also recommend the 5 lesson comprehensive certificate program that teaches you everything you need to know, so you can then go off and buy a board and go surfing on your own – successfully.

For intermediate to advanced surfers, we offer very informative surf classes personally developed by Merrick Davis, in line with the Australian Institute of Sport, to take you to your next level.

We also hire both mini mals and short boards, delivered free to your door. We stock fibreglass as well as specifically designed, latest technology soft boards, which are stable and fun to play on.

The Ayr Nature Display was conceived and arranged by Jess and Allan Ey. The display was opened to the public in 1966. The experience begins as you walk past feature walls decorated with North Queensland rocks at the front and the entrance of the display. 9,400 slabs cut with a lapidary saw were used. After traversing the entrance, you will walk into an exceptional display of thousands of specimens housed amazingly in a 4.9 metre by 28.4 metre room.
The Ayr Nature Display is Australia’s finest, preserved collection of butterflies, moths, beetles, crustaceans, sea shells, reptiles, rocks, timber, aboriginal stone implements and fossils, especially ammonites, all under one roof.

Located on the outskirts of Charters Towers, the Venus Gold Battery offers an insight into an amazing real life gold rush of the late nineteenth century. The Battery is of national cultural significance as the largest surviving Battery relic in Australia and the oldest surviving Battery in Queensland.

Constructed in 1872, it was a public or custom mill in its prime and became a State Battery in 1919 to provide ore crushing facilities for small miners long after other mills had closed. It ceased commercial operations in 1973 after a century of service. Guided tours are available daily. One of the highlights is a fascinating film presentation that shows not only the process of extracting gold from ore, but also the story of the Battery’s working life and some of its ghosts.
